Rollercoasters and theme park rides

A renowned European manufacturer of amusement park rides including roller coasters, was seeking a logistics provider to help deliver their highly engineered products to theme parks around the world. They found the expertise they needed at Charles Kendall Inc. (formerly EWC Global Logistics) who offered the perfect bridge between Europe and the USA, a relationship which has lasted since 2005.

Situation Our client outfits theme parks throughout the USA and Canada. In 2017, they landed a big contract to supply a brand new park in Alabama with several rides. All rides and roller coasters are manufactured at their European factory and shipped mostly in 40’ open top containers from port directly to the parks. The destination ports include New Orleans, Oakland, Norfolk, Houston, Savannah, New York, Montreal and Vancouver. Open top containers are required because the rides are hoisted by crane at the parks who generally have no warehouse facilities. Solution Together with our partner agent, we developed a unique expertise in service requiring; price quoting months in advance, one way step deck truck deliveries, open top equipment repositioning coordinated with the Shipping Lines, US Customs Clearance all around the USA, coordinating deliveries with the theme parks to ensure on-site cranes when required and returning equipment without per diem charges mounting. The project started in December 2016 with completion set for Memorial Day the following year which is the traditional start of the amusement park season in the USA. Results With continued teamwork we have smoothly delivered more than 131 containers over a 5 month period for, not only new Alabama Theme Park, but another 6 parks across the USA and Canada, including the Six Flags group.
