Mark Kendall
Group Operations Director

An Economic History graduate of the University of Exeter, Mark spent four years as a commissioned officer in the British Army before joining the family company in 1998 as a buyer. He went on to become Procurement Manager and Procurement Director, managing all our procurement work, both in the UK and in our network of overseas offices. In that time, he has won and delivered multi-million dollar contracts for overseas governments. In 2005, Mark was appointed Operations Director for the whole group. Since then, he has overseen and developed the Group’s commercial activities, including the launching of new businesses and integration of those we’ve acquired.

Martyn Bishop
Group Finance Director

Martyn graduated from Reading University in 1979 with a degree in Biochemical Engineering, and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1982. In 1988, he became the youngest partner in Anderson and Binder Hamlyn, before spending six years as Finance Director for an international food company. Martyn joined Charles Kendall in 2005 as Group Finance director, bringing with him 30 years of substantial international commercial, and operational experience. In recent years, Martyn has introduced cost saving measures for the group, and been pivotal in the negotiations and alignment of two of our acquired businesses.

John Povey
Business Development Director

After graduating in Geography from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1976, John spent 22 years with Crown Agents for Overseas Governments and Administrations, including many postings in Africa and the Middle East. He then spent nine years as Procurement and Consultancy Manager for Balfour Williamson, supporting development aid programmes worldwide. John joined us in 1997. He manages procurement and consultancy services for programmes funded by bilateral and multilateral donor agencies, governments and international organisations in developing countries. He has played a key role in securing major contracts for the group, for a wide variety of programmes funded by many different donors.

Terry Bowen
Commercial Director

With over 25 years’ experience in international procurement and project management, Terry can give you chapter and verse on World Bank, EU, UK Government (DfID), EBRD, EIB, SIDA, Danida and USA MCC procurement guidelines for goods and services. His experience includes managing large, complex programs where technical procurement assistance, capacity building, and training are key, as well as procurement and consulting projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. Terry is currently backstopping support Director for a number of major development aid programmes, including the MCC Senegal programme ($540 million) and procurement support for the Romanian Government School Rehabilitation programme (2,500 schools).

John Saunders
Group Marketing Director; Managing Director, Altitude and Exosphere

John graduated in 1996 from the University of Brighton with a degree in International Business and Hospitality Management. His first role was Marketing Manager of Tristar Worldwide, the world’s largest chauffeur drive business. Three years later, John was recruited by leading Integrated Marketing Agency IMP London, before setting up the event marketing agency First Corporate in September 2000. John joined Charles Kendall Group in 2006 to establish Altitude and subsequently Exosphere. He is now Managing Director of both those companies, as well as the Group Marketing Director.

Leonora Leng
Director, Charles Kendall Group

Leonora leads our private client services department. A gifted administrator and manager, she has 25 years’ experience in client service management, much of it with Charles Kendall. Whether arranging travel, hotels, meetings or medical treatment for government-sponsored clients, or organising outings and shopping trips for private clients, Leonora’s expertise, talent and skill with people combine to ensure both clients and visitors are guaranteed a seamless quality of service, both in London and in our other European locations.

Peter Sunderland
Managing Director, Charles Kendall Freight

Peter has over 30 years’ sales, operational and management experience, in both large multinational logistics organisations and smaller, independent ones. Peter became Managing Director of Charles Kendall Freight in 1999. He has led the change from what was primarily a Middle East-focused project forwarding company into a global business with offices in the Far East and Middle East, as well as a strong network of like-minded partners in other key areas such as Europe and North America.

Gordon Mitchell
Finance Director, Charles Kendall Freight

Gordon’s career has been devoted to finance. Before joining Charles Kendall, he spent many years in Finance Director roles at both private and well-known public companies. In the same role for Charles Kendall Freight (CKF), Gordon has been responsible for all financial reporting, budgets, credit control and overheads at all the CKF offices. Gordon also has extensive knowledge of the delivery of bespoke software packages, as well as an excellent understanding of pension, healthcare and life assurance schemes.

Ian Jenkins
Operations Director, Charles Kendall Freight

Ian has spent over 30 years in the logistics industry, holding senior management and sales positions in both the UK and USA. Before joining Charles Kendall Freight (CKF), where he is now Operations Director, he worked for 15 years in New Jersey. Ian joined the CKF board of directors in 1998, and has led the company’s remarkable growth in both air and sea freight into the North American market. He has also worked closely with CKF’s portfolio of multinational customers to deliver global solutions on turnkey projects, including risk assessments in some of the world’s more volatile regions.

Simon Harris
Sales Director, Charles Kendall Freight

Simon has 20 years’ experience in freight forwarding, much of which he’s spent with Charles Kendall in the Middle East. There, he managed and implemented the logistics of large oil and gas and infrastructure-type projects. In 2001, Simon returned to the UK as national Sales Manager for Charles Kendall Freight (CKF), with a key focus on developing the company’s core markets. Most recently, as a board director, Simon has helped shape the strategy and direction of CKF, particularly in the Middle and Far East. As our Dubai business grew, Simon relocated to become our regional director in the Middle East.

Darren Harris
Operations Director, Charles Kendall Packing

Darren has spent 23 years in the export packing industry, developing an in-depth knowledge of case-making and packing. As well as leading the team at Charles Kendall Packing, he is also the Group Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser. He's qualified in the packing and carriage of dangerous goods by air and sea, and is responsible for Charles Kendall Packing’s quality assurance program.
