Project Management

Charles Kendall Packing has a long standing commitment to one particular customer whereby we exclusively project manage on-site packing and door-to-door delivery of high-precision machines from their origin in north-west England to Baltimore, north-east USA.

On this particular occasion, the dismantled equipment alone comprised 22 cases of various dimensions, with a total gross shipping weight of over 140,000kgs. The largest case, containing the main machine body, measured 620 x 350 x 380cms and weighed 70,000kgs. The consignment was shipped on an ACL RoRo vessel with an 11-day transit time quay to quay. Once on American soil, it took a further three days to reach its destination. The machine parts were packed to an extremely high specification, and representatives were on hand at all the trans-shipment points in the UK and USA to supervise the lifting of the main machine body. Upon arrival at the final destination the same representatives and initial case-makers checked the contents of the 22 cases for quality purposes. We acted as buying agents for the machine transit brackets, machine lifting brackets, and special lifting frame. We provided a purpose-built metal fabricated case base for the main machine body, and special transit ‘Temperature Recorders’ for temperature-sensitive parts. Our colleagues at Charles Kendall Freight supplied a four-man packing team to pack the equipment over an 11-day period on site. They supplied and controlled the movement of the dismantled parts, as well as delivering cranes and haulage to Liverpool. All our cases complied with ISPM15, and were marked to Contract Requirements and International Standards.
