Piping for Remembrance

Monday 14th November 2011

For the past five years, Emerald Society of Pipes & Drums from the Metropolitan Police Service, have played for the Remembrance weekend services as a memorial and tribute to the fallen in the two World Wars, but predominantly to the Irish who fell. This year Arthur Govan of Charles Kendall Procurement in Albert Court joined around 45 other band members to march and play bagpipes with the band in Ypres, Belgium. They paraded to the Menin Gate for the last post ceremony on Saturday evening, laying a wreath at the memorial.  On the Sunday they also visited the Irish Peace Park where Arthur, along with a fellow piper, played a lament.
