Our Hong Kong office provided a seamless and cost-effective transportation solution for oversized cargo destined for India.

The Situation

Our Hong Kong based client required more than 150 over-height ceiling and bullnose structural components to be transported to Mumbai, India as part of the extensive renovation works to the international airport, due to be completed in 2013.

They were looking for a solution which would enable them to transport the pre-cast parts within a specific pre-planned time period with swift completion of a number of pertinent documents including a letter of credit requirement.

The Solution

Due to the considerable size and shape of the cargo, we had to work to meticulous measurements to secure multiple 40ft out of gauge (OOG) spaces with a reliable shipping liner.

The height limit on most Chinese bridges is 4.7m which meant a great deal of forward planning had to go into ensuring the cargo could be transported smoothly along the way through any potential road obstacles .

In order to achieve this, special trucks with lower racks were sourced and highly skilled and experienced drivers hired. Additionally, we were asked by the client to provide a Seaway Worth certificate, an often overlooked piece of marine insurance documentation.

Results

We were able to provide a seamless and cost-effective transportation solution for the client, ensuring the cargo arrived in Mumbai exactly when it had been arranged to do so.

Charles Kendall Freight in Hong Kong were able to provide regular progress updates to the client so they were kept well informed and additionally provided the flexibility necessary to cope with any rapid changes in their production schedule.
